Meningococcal infection can cause variety of diseases. When the bacteria invade the bloodstream, it can lead to meningococcaemia or when the membranes that envelop the brain and spinal cord, it can cause meningococcal meningitis.

Meningococcal ACWY vaccine provides active immunization prevents invasive meningococcal disease caused by N. meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135 and Y. Now this vaccine is not included in “Hong Kong Childhood Immunisation Programme” of the Centre for Health Protection. Therefore, children and adolescents are recommended to receive this vaccine for better protection.

In addition to routine vaccination for children and adolescents, meningococcal ACWY vaccine is also recommended for people with higher risk of infections, for example:

  • Overseas students living in residence halls
  • Close contacts of patients with meningococcal infections, including persons living or working together with the patient.
  • Travelers to high-risk areas (e.g. sub-Saharan Africa extending from Senegal to Ethiopia)

 

Vaccination Method:

Intramuscular Injection

  • A total of 1-2 doses are required for the vaccination to be fully effective:
  • Aged 9-23 months: 2 doses in total; 2 successive doses at 3 months interval
  • Aged 2 - 55: 1 dose

Recommended for

Individuals aged 9 months to 55 years of age

  • Doctor's consultation is included prior to vaccination. Patients will have to pay a consultation fee of HKD300 if considered not suitable for the vaccine injection and the remaining balance will be refunded.
  • The product is applicable to individuals aged 9 months and above (age according to the date of vaccination).
  • Please contact related centre for stock availability before redemption.
  • Customers must present their identity cards and order confirmation letter (printed or e-version) on the appointment day.
  • Individuals aged below 18 (age according to the date of vaccination) MUST be accompanied by their parents/guardians, who will sign on the consent form on behalf of the enrollees in the clinic.
  • The redemption will be valid for 6 months starting from the date of payment.
  • Neither amendment nor cancellation is allowed once the payment has been confirmed. Also, it is neither transferable nor refundable.
  • All tests are not for the purpose of medical diagnosis or treatment.
  • Offers cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional offers or discounts and cannot be exchanged for cash or other products.
  • In case of disputes, the decision of Quality HealthCare Medical Services Limited shall be final.
