20 - Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Prevenar 20)
20 - Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Prevenar 20)

Streptococcus pneumoniae causes a wide range of diseases, including middle ear infection (acute otitis media), pneumonia, and various forms of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), such as meningitis and bloodstream infection (bacteremia and sepsis). Pneumococcal infection can be severe and potentially fatal. Pneumococci are commonly found in the nose and throat of healthy individuals, especially children. Transmission occurs primarily through droplets generated by coughing and sneezing, close contact with infected individuals, or contact with contaminated objects. Pneumococcal vaccination is one of the safe and effective means of preventing pneumococcal diseases. You should talk to your doctor to
find out if you need to be vaccinated against pneumococcal disease.

20-Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Prevenar 20) has the broadest serotype coverage of any paediatric pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, helping to protect against all 20 serotypes. PREVNAR 20 expands on PREVNAR 13® profile (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) by including seven new serotypes (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F, and 33F) associated with invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), high case-fatality rates, antibiotic resistance, and/or meningitis. It thus provides additional protection.

Highlights:

  • Includes seven additional serotypes (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F and 33F) to strengthen the protection.
  • Regardless of previous pneumococcal vaccination status, Prevenar 20 is well-tolerated and immunogenic.
  • It is approved by the S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and currently is the conjugate pneumococcal vaccine that covers the most serotypes.
  • This is a registered pharmaceutical product approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong. It meets the criteria for safety, efficacy, and quality.
