Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is an infectious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Anybody has had chickenpox, the varicella-zoster virus remains dormant in your nervous system after the chickenpox infection is over. In Hong Kong, 97% of individuals carry the varicella-zoster virus that can cause shingles. Therefore, almost every adult has the chance of developing shingles.

The symptoms of shingles are a burning, stabbing, or electric shock-like pain. Common areas affected include the chest, waist, and back, and sometimes the face (around the eyes, behind the ears), neck, and extremities. Shingrix is the shingles vaccine demonstrating
over 90%* efficacy in clinical trials, it provides strong protection against shingles and neuralgia, the most common complications of shingles. Applicable for immunocompromised adults aged 18 years and adults aged 50 years and over.

* In clinical trials it was proven to be over 90% effective in preventing shingles in healthy individuals aged 50 or above.

If you have the following condition, you are recommended to seek advice before receiving vaccination.

  • You are allergic to any of its ingredients
  • You had allergic reaction to medication or previous vaccination

How:
Intramuscular Injection
A total of 2 doses are required to complete the vaccination schedule:

    • 2 doses separated by 2-6 months

  1. Doctor's consultation is included prior to the 1st dose of vaccine. Patients will have to pay a consultation fee of $300 if considered not suitable for the vaccine injection and the remaining balance will be refunded.
  2. This vaccination service is applicable to persons aged 50 or above / aged 18 or above at increased risk of herpes zoster.
  3. Quality HealthCare will contact the customer in around 5 working days after the date of payment for appointment arrangement.
  4. This vaccination is only available at designated Quality HealthCare Medical Centre(s) as shown above.
  5. Customers must present their identity cards and order confirmation letter (printed or e-version) on the appointment day for verification.
  6. This vaccination service will be valid for 6 months starting from the date of payment. Customer must redeem and complete the relevant vaccination within the 6 months’ period.
  7. Save and except for the circumstance as stipulated under Clause 1 above, no amendment or refund to the service ordered is allowed once payment is confirmed. All services cannot be resold, transferred, or used for commercial purposes without explicit written consent of Quality HealthCare.
  8. In case of disputes, the decision of Quality HealthCare Medical Services Limited shall be final.
