Liver fibrosis scan
Liver fibrosis scan

A long-term inflammation may lead to the formation of excess fibrous tissue in the liver, and this may develop into liver fibrosis. If left untreated, liver fibrosis can progress to liver cirrhosis and eventually liver failure. There are no obvious symptoms of fatty liver, liver fibrosis, liver cirrhosis, or early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma.

Liver fibrosis scan is a non-invasive and painless technology for assessing liver fibrosis and fatty liver disease. The scan is safe, simple, and without exposure to radiation. It measures the liver stiffness and liver fat accumulation, delivering liver fibrosis results. Healthcare professional will place a probe at the position of the liver where shear wave is emitted through the skin into the liver. At the same time, the probe will trace the velocity of the shear wave.

The following common risk factors may increase chances of developing liver cirrhosis:

  • Chronic Alcoholism
  • Chronic Viral Hepatitis (hepatitis B, C, and D)
  • Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • High cholesterol
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Poor eating habits
  • Bile Duct Disease
