"Left Flu Right Lung" Trivalent Influenza Vaccine + 20 - Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Prevenar 20)

Left Flu Right Lung
One Shot for Flu, one Shot for Pneumonia
Double protection for yourself and your loved ones

Why “Left Flu, Right Lung”?

Influenza can lead to pneumonia and increase the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.

Secondary bacterial pneumonia is also a major cause of worsening conditions in flu patients. Receiving both flu and pneumococcal vaccines may reduce the risk of serious respiratory complications.

Influenza viruses continually evolve with new virus strains emerging unpredictably, and the vaccine composition is updated every year based on the circulating influenza virus strains. According to the data from the World Health Organization, when the vaccine strains closely match with the circulating influenza viruses, the efficacy of the vaccine typically ranges from 70% to 90% in individuals aged under 65 years old. Therefore, it is advised to get vaccinated against influenza annually to effectively prevent influenza.  Upon vaccination, it usually takes around two weeks for the body to develop sufficient antibodies to provide protection against the virus. It is recommended to get vaccinated at least two weeks before the start of the influenza season in order to be adequately protected during the flu season.

Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Egg-Based) contains the following strains:

  • A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
  • A/Darwin/1454/2025 (H3N2)-like virus
  • B/Tokyo/EIS13-175/2025 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus

Streptococcus pneumoniae causes a wide range of diseases, including acute otitis media (middle ear infection), pneumonia, and various forms of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), such as meningitis and bloodstream infection (bacteremia and sepsis). Pneumococcal infection can be severe and potentially fatal. Pneumococci are commonly found in the nose and throat of healthy individuals, especially children. Transmission occurs primarily through droplets generated by coughing and sneezing, close contact with infected individuals, or contact with contaminated objects. Pneumococcal vaccination is one of the safe and effective means of preventing pneumococcal diseases.

20-Valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (Prevenar 20) highlights:

  • Includes seven additional serotypes (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F and 33F) to strengthen the protection.
  • Regardless of previous pneumococcal vaccination status, Prevenar 20 is well-tolerated and immunogenic.
  • It is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and currently is the conjugate pneumococcal vaccine that covers the most serotypes.
  • This is a registered pharmaceutical product approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong. It meets the criteria for safety, efficacy, and quality.

Please consult your family doctor if you have any questions about receiving the vaccines.
